The Baiyashan Granite Quarry is recognized as one of eastern China’s most significant granite quarrying centers. Over the past three decades, the region has evolved into one of the country’s primary suppliers of construction-grade granite for the domestic market. Its extensive reserves, variety of granite types and colors, and advanced processing capabilities have established the quarry as a prominent name in the country’s stone industry. Location of Baiyashan Granite Quarry

The Baiyashan granite quarry is located in Macheng, an industrial city in eastern Hubei Province. Macheng lies in the northeastern part of Hubei, close to Anhui Province. The granite reserves are situated within the Baiya Mountain range, an area recognized as a major mining district.

Granite Area & Reserves

The Baiyashan area encompasses a vast expanse of tens of square kilometers and contains one of the largest construction-grade granite reserves in eastern China. Estimates suggest that the extractable reserves are on the scale of billions of cubic meters. Verified granite reserves within the primary mining area are documented at approximately 515 million cubic meters, positioning the quarry among China’s major large-scale granite operations. Its vast reserves support long-term industrial extraction.

The main granite varieties extracted from the Baiyashan Granite Quarry include:

Industrial granite extraction in this region commenced in the 1990s and has progressively become the cornerstone of the local economy. More than 180 companies specializing in extraction, cutting, and processing operate in the region. Annual raw stone production reaches several million cubic meters, with a considerable amount feeding into major Chinese construction initiatives. The expansion of this sector has generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs across mining, transportation, and processing industries. The stone industry is effectively considered one of the primary pillars of Macheng’s urban economy.

The Baiyashan granite quarry is a strategic center for granite supply in China, playing a significant role in the country’s building stone supply chain. Its extensive reserves, combined with access to transportation infrastructure, provide a considerable competitive advantage. In addition, the integration of processing facilities within the quarry area helps reduce manufacturing costs and enhances the region’s overall economic value.

According to unofficial industrial estimates, the resources of the Baiyashan granite quarry are valued at approximately USD 280 billion, based on the estimated market value of the raw granite extracted from the site. However, it should be noted that this figure remains preliminary andhas not been verified by any official or authoritative economic source.

Geology & Formation

These regional granites were formed through the slow crystallization of magma deep within the Earth’s crust. The gradual cooling process, occurring over millions of years, led to the development of large-grained crystals composed primarily of quartz, feldspar, and mica. These igneous rock masses were later exposed as a result of tectonic activity and long-term surface erosion. The formation of these rocks dates back to ancient geological eras and has contributed to the stable continental crustal structure of eastern China.
